enter India:-
The information provided below must be confirmed with Indian
organizations such as the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Labor and
Employment, and the Indian Immigration Office, which are the competent entities
in the matter and could have introduced some very recent change or reform in
their legislation.
Types of visa to
travel to India : since 2006, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
subcontracted with a private company the service for processing visa
applications for entry into the country.
Visa processing centers in different countries are
authorized by the Government of India through the Visa Outsourcing Agency,
which charges an additional fee to foreigners for the receipt of applications.
The different types of visas to travel to India are issued
according to the reason for your visit. Details of the required documentation can
be obtained through the web.
The visa modalities
in force as of this date (March 2017) are the following:
Transit visa: Transit visas are granted
for the purpose of training the holder to travel through India and reach their
final destination. They are valid for a period of 15 days and a maximum of two
entries. The applicant must possess a plane ticket for the continuation of the
trip to a final destination.
Entry visa in India for certain groups: It
can be requested by people of Hindu origin, spouses or dependents of people who
have a business or work visa, and people who are going to adopt, as well as
those who have a home owned in India. It is also valid for athletes who are
going to participate in an international championship or pilots and hostesses
who make commercial flights. It can also be requested by professors who give
lectures, conferences or readings at universities in India under the GIAN
Scheme.
Tourist visas :
Tourist visas can be requested for 3 or 6 months but the maximum length of stay
in India cannot exceed 90 days.
In the case of journalists or people working in a company
related to the media, they must request prior authorization:-
- Name of the company you represent.
- Type of report you will be doing in India.
- Places you will visit in India / itinerary.
- Times of stay and dates of visits.
- Full name and contact telephone number
- Copy of the accreditation card.
- Other data of interest.
Work visa: Work
visas are granted to foreigners as long as the applicant is an expert,
qualified professional or a person who is being hired by a company,
organization, industry in India with a contract or high-employment
relationship, qualified position as a technical expert, senior executive or in
a managerial position. The employment contract is necessary as proof of
employment. Those who travel to collaborate with an NGO are included in this
item.
Visa for the
execution of a project: project visas are included in work visas and are
granted to foreigners for execution within the field of steel and the energy
sector.
Study Visa: It is
valid for a maximum of one year. It is granted to a foreigner who comes to
India to pursue a course of regular and full-time academic studies at a
recognized institution. The applicant must present proof of admission to a
recognized educational institution and evidence of financial support. In case
of admission to a medical or paramedical course, you must present a certificate
of no objection from the Ministry of Health. The study visa can be granted for
a maximum of 6 months if you are applying for admission or taking entrance
exams. There is no restriction on the number of courses of study that can be
followed, changes of course, institute or both.
Visa for journalists: The visa for journalists is granted for a
maximum validity of 180 days to press professionals, film staff, representative
radio and television organizations, and personnel related to the sector, such
as writers, journalists, photographers, television producers, cinema,
advertising and all those who write about fashion, sports, etc ... All those
professionals who have a journalist visa, upon arrival in New Delhi, should
contact the Foreign Advertising Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA ) and, in other cities, with the
Press and Information Office of the Government of India to receive assistance
in different aspects, including the planning of the itineraries to be carried
out.
The procedure to be followed at least two months in advance
is as follows: -

Business visa: It is granted to foreigners who want to visit
India to establish an industry / business explore the possibilities of
establishing business relationships or buy / sell industrial products. Your
financial capacity and experience in the field of business must be justified.
This type of visa is issued for the duration indicated in the documentation,
and is never longer than one year.
Visa to attend a
conference / seminar: They are
granted to foreigners who are going to attend international conferences,
seminars, etc. made with Indian government agencies, public sector companies or
NGOs. Prior authorization is required from the relevant Ministries or
Departments of the Government of India.
Research visa: It
can be requested depending on the recognition and prestige of the research
institution and the eligibility of the applicant, and is agreed for the
duration of the research project or for a maximum of 3 years. It cannot be
requested by professors who give lectures, conferences or readings at
universities in India under the GIAN Scheme.
medical escort: is granted to foreigners traveling to India
for medical treatment in a hospital, clinic or recognized specialist center. It
lasts for 3 months or for the period of treatment to be received, whichever is
less. Family members, in the first degree of consanguinity, who travel with the
person receiving the treatment, will be granted a medical companion visa;
depending on the medical visa of the patient they are accompanied. No more than
two companions are allowed. It is also issued to doctors who have to assist a
patient during their treatment in India or have to travel with this person.
Permits to restricted
areas: Visas issued to foreigners
are not valid for certain specific areas. Special permits are required to visit
restricted / protected areas or areas. These permits will be issued by the
Regional Foreigner Registration Offices of the Ministry of Interior or the FRRO
in India.
Registration and
extension of a visa: Foreigners
entering India with a study, work or research visa of more than 180 days must
register with the Regional Foreigner Registration Offices of the Ministry of
Interior or FRRO, within of the first 14 days of his arrival in the country.
Foreigners holding any other type of visa valid for more
than 180 days do not require registration if the period of stay in India, at
each visit, is less than 180 days. However, they must register within 180 days
upon arrival, if the period of their stay will exceed 180 days.
